FULL-TIME BILINGUAL CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT LIBRARY ASSOCIATE
The Johnson Public Library is seeking a full-time Bilingual Library Associate to work in the Children’s Department. The position is 35 hours per week, from Tuesday - Saturday, including one night a week.

Responsibilities will include:

Shelving library materials.
-
Providing assistance to patrons at the front desk.
-
Assisting Children’s staff with programs.
-
Answering reference and reader’s advisory questions for children.
-
Developing and running a weekly Bilingual Story Time in English and Spanish.

Other duties as needed/assigned.
Qualifications:
-
Fluency in Spanish is required.
-
BCCLS experience is a plus.
-
Operation of standard computer software including Google Docs.
-
Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.
-
Patience and enthusiasm for children are a must!
Starting salary of $42,000 based on experience and education. Generous benefits and vacation package included. Search is open until filled. This is a union and civil service position.

FULL-TIME REFERENCE ASSOCIATE
The Johnson Public Library is seeking a full-time Reference library associate, bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required. The schedule includes one night per week and the occasional Saturday. Reference Associate works at the Reference Desk under the supervision of the Reference Librarian, assistance with programs, other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:

Assisting patrons with internet access, email, printing, file attachments, downloads and basic troubleshooting with computer problems and mobile devices.

Performing title searches in the online catalog and helping patrons locate materials on the library shelves.

Answering Reference Desk telephone if the Reference Librarian is busy.

Pulling hold requests and checking out items.
-
Cross training with other departments to cover those departments as needed.
-
Work on special projects as assigned by the Department Head and/or Director.

Other duties as required.
Skills and Interests:

Ability to work with a diverse community of patrons with different levels of literacy and/or technological abilities.

Previous BCCLS experience preferred.

Excellent customer service attitude and people skills required.

Spanish language proficiency is preferred.

This position requires bending, lifting and reaching.
Salary: 40-44k annually depending on experience and Spanish fluency plus a generous benefits package.

PART-TIME ADULT PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT
The Johnson Public Library in Hackensack seeks an energetic, creative, detail-oriented individual with strong communication and technology skills to begin year-round part-time employment as our Adult Programming Assistant.  This position supports the successful operation of the Library in offering a wide variety of high quality, diverse and relevant programs for adults that reflect the Library’s mission to be “the Community’s destination for discovery, learning and making connections.” The Adult Programming Assistant performs administrative duties to help plan and execute programs as part of the Adult Services/Reference team. The ideal candidate will be a people person who can work with limited supervision to plan and execute programs, liaise with sponsors, support organizations and the public, and work as part of the programming staff here to develop and deploy programs that support the needs of the community.
Library experience and bilingual, Spanish, a plus.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Works with fellow library staff to develop a robust schedule of in person, hybrid and virtual programs for adults.

Assists with and executes in-person, virtual and hybrid programs, including managing or coordinating technology needs with our tech team and occasionally independently, room set-up and clean up tasks.

Maintains a professional demeanor in all interactions.
-
Assists with the promotion of programs, submitting program proposals and information to the library’s Marketing team in a timely fashion.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Maintains a safe and welcoming environment.
The schedule for this position will be flexible and based around the timing of programs, with several nights and weekends included. We anticipate 20-25 hours per week on average.
Starting salary is 16-18 dollars per hour. The library offers generous paid vacation and sick time to part time employees as well as many paid holidays. This is a Civil Service/Union position.
