FULL-TIME BILINGUAL CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT LIBRARY ASSOCIATE

The Johnson Public Library is seeking a full-time Bilingual Library Associate to work in the Children’s Department. The position is 35 hours per week, from Tuesday - Saturday, including one night a week.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Shelving library materials.

  • Providing assistance to patrons at the front desk.

  • Assisting Children’s staff with programs.

  • Answering reference and reader’s advisory questions for children.

  • Developing and running a weekly Bilingual Story Time in English and Spanish.

  • Other duties as needed/assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Fluency in Spanish is required.

  • BCCLS experience is a plus.

  • Operation of standard computer software including Google Docs.

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.

  • Patience and enthusiasm for children are a must!

 

Starting salary of $42,000 based on experience and education. Generous benefits and vacation package included. Search is open until filled. This is a union and civil service position.

FULL TIME PROGRAMMING & MARKETING ASSOCIATE

The Johnson Public Library is seeking a dynamic, creative, tech-savvy person to be a full time member of our Adult Services Team. This is a new position that reports to our Head of Technology/Marketing Manager and will include the following responsibilities:

  • The creation and management of craft programming for adults.

  • Coordination of adult programming including budgeting, scheduling, communicating with vendors, and submitting reports and statistics in a timely manner.

  • Management of the library’s beautiful art gallery, including facilitating art openings every first Thursday evening.

  • Technology classes for adults. Primarily one on one and small group classes for beginners.

  • Assist in digital marketing efforts, including creating image and video content for social media.

  • Help monitor and track the performance of digital and physical marketing campaigns and provide reports as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned. 

This position requires working the first Thursday evening of each month. The remaining hours are flexible and scheduled around programming needs. Some work may be completed remotely.

Requirements:

  • The ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, in English (bilingual Spanish preferred)

  • At least two years of experience in marketing, graphic design, social media management or a similar field (can include such work completed at a library)

  • At least two years in a customer-facing role, library preferred 

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent 

  • Demonstrated computer skills, including MS Office and G Suite App. Proficiency in design programs such as Canva. 

  • Flexibility, the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively with a high level of attention to detail. Must be comfortable completing projects with hard deadlines. 

  • High level of professionalism with a great attitude! 

 

The position is 35 hours per week, with a starting salary of $42,000 based on experience and education. Generous benefits and vacation package included.
