Part-Time Circulation Assistant
The Johnson Public Library is seeking a part-time library assistant (preferably bilingual, with Spanish fluency) in the Circulation Department.
This is an 18 hour per week position, with the possibility of additional hours. The typical schedule would be:
Monday: 5 - 9
Wednesday: 3 - 6
Thursday: 3 - 6
Friday: 1 - 5
Saturday: 1 - 5
Some flexibility in scheduling is required.
Duties will include:

Shelving library materials.
-
Organizing, shifting and reading shelves.

Providing assistance to patrons at the front desk, including registering new library card users.

Answering phones and directing calls when necessary.
-
Other duties as needed/assigned.
Qualifications:

Bilingual-Spanish preferred.

Alpha/numeric sorting abilities.
-
Physical ability to bend or sit down to tend to bottom shelves, and lift or shift at least 20 pounds of books.

Operation of standard computer software including Google Docs.

Respectful customer service skills.

Patience and enthusiasm are a must!

Full-Time Bilingual Associate
The Johnson Public Library seeks a full-time bilingual associate. This is a 35 hour position that will require some flexibility in scheduling to cover programs and events that occur on nights and weekends.
Education and experience: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Spanish fluency is also required.
Responsibilities:

Working with the Bilingual Librarian
-
Conduct outreach visits and library tours. Represent the library at outreach events.
-
Assist in Spanish Collection Development
-
Provide programming: assist with monitoring programs such as ESL conversation class and with the translation of program flyers and other library materials
-
Provide reference services to a diverse community of patrons with different levels of literacy and/or technological abilities.
-
Assist patrons with computer tasks including printing, file attachments, downloads and basic troubleshooting.
-
Instruct the public on the use of ebooks, downloadable audio, and other technologies.
-
Work on special projects as assigned by the Bilingual Librarian and/or Director.
-
Other duties as required.
Skills and Interests:

The ideal person for this position must be self-motivated, have a positive attitude toward customer service, possess personal integrity, have a strong work ethic, and can work individually or on a team.

Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.

Fluency in Spanish Language.

Excellent customer service attitude and people skills required.

Must have a comprehensive knowledge of print and computerized reference resources.
This position requires bending, lifting and reaching.
