Part-Time Reference Associate

The Johnson Public Library seeks a part-time Library Associate to work mornings and Saturdays at the Reference Desk, 25-28 hours per week total.

Education and experience:  

Completion of a high school diploma or higher.  BCCLS library experience and Spanish language skills a plus

Responsibilities:  

Under the supervision of the reference librarians provide reference services to a diverse community of patrons with different levels of literacy and/or technological abilities.

Assist patrons with computer technology including Internet, email, printing, file attachments, downloads and basic troubleshooting.

Instruct the public on the use of ebooks, downloadable audio, and other technologies.

Work on special projects as assigned by the Department Head and/or Director.

Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Interests:

Excellent customer service attitude and people skills required. 

Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office products. 

Familiarity with digital downloads and mobile devices. 

This position requires bending, lifting and reaching.

Salary: 22.00 to start, salary higher for bilingual

Part-Time Security Guard

Responsibilities:

Patrols the grounds and other areas and facilities of the library. 

Enforces the Behavior Rules and other policies for the library users. 

Guards and protects the library against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal or unauthorized entry; does other related duties as required.

Not an armed position. Police are called for any person’s detention or forced expulsion.

Schedule:

Schedule is flexible, between 20 and 30 hours per week, evenings and Saturdays preferred.

Requirements:

Background check.

Ideal candidate should have had training in dealing effectively with aggressive behavior.

Salary and Benefits:  $22 per hour, paid sick and vacation time.

Full-Time Bilingual Library Associate, Children’s Department

Responsibilities:

Shelving library materials.

Providing assistance to patrons at the front desk.

Assisting Children’s staff with programs.

Answering reference and reader’s advisory questions for children.

Developing and running a weekly Bilingual Story Time in English and Spanish.

Other duties as needed/assigned.

Qualifications: 

Fluency in Spanish is required.

BCCLS experience is a plus.

Operation of standard computer software including Google Docs.

Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.

Patience and enthusiasm for children are a must!

The position is 35 hours per week, from Tuesday – Saturday, including one night a week.

Salary minimum of $40,000. Generous benefits and vacation package included.

The Johnson Public Library seeks a part-time reference librarian to every other Saturday.  Additional hours may be available to cover vacations.

Education and experience:

A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university is required. MLIS candidates with relevant library experience may be considered.

Provide reference services to a diverse community of patrons with different levels of literacy and/or technological abilities.

Assisting patrons with internet access, email, printing, file attachments, downloads and basic troubleshooting with computer problems and mobile devices.

Instruct the public on the use of ebooks, downloadable audio, and other technologies.

Work on special projects as assigned by the Department Head and/or Director.

Other duties as required.

Skills and Interests:

Excellent customer service attitude and people skills required.

Must have a comprehensive knowledge of print and computerized reference resources.

Spanish language proficiency is a plus but not required.

This position requires bending, lifting and reaching.
