Full-Time Librarian I, Public Relations Specialist

This position requires an enthusiastic, warm, outgoing, and friendly professional who understands the mission of a public library and demonstrates passion for the Library’s vision to be the heart of the community.

Description:

Outreach:

Attends occasional Chamber events and relevant local fairs.  Seeks new partnerships within the Hackensack community engaging the assistance of other librarians.

Reference Desk coverage:

Works scheduled shifts at the desk, assist patrons with questions, holds, and computer assistance.

Programming:

Create new events, classes, workshops within budget allocated. Current programming responsibilities include:  Museum Passes, one lawn concert a year, and Yoga classes.

Promotion:

Collaborates with other librarians in charge of programming to assist them with promotional needs.  Promotes programs on many platforms including Meetup, Radio, and Newspaper calendars. Writes and edits monthly press release.  Works closely with social media coordinators.
Other Duties include:  Collection Development (one small section of the collection), Government Documents administration (mostly deaccessioning) and bi-annual Book Sale.

Required Education and experience: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university.  Ideally candidates should have public relations experience.  In addition, we are seeking someone with a minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a library. MLS candidates with relevant and extensive library and/or public relations experience may be considered.
